Poll: Barghouti would beat Abbas, Haniyeh in election

Convicted Fatah terrorist Marwan Barghouti, currently serving five life terms in Israeli prison for his role in several terror attacks during the second intifada, would win a presidential election against both Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, a poll released this week found.
The poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR) shows clear improvement in the standing of Haniyeh and Hamas during the second quarter of 2012, while Abbas and his Fatah movement have declined in popularity during the same period.
If an election between Abbas and Haniyeh were held today, Abbas would receive 49% of the vote versus Haniyeh's 44%, according to the poll. Three months ago, Abbas received the support of 54% and Haniyeh 42%.
The poll found that If the presidential elections were between all three candidates - Abbas, Barghouti and Haniyeh, Barghouti would receive the highest percentage of votes (37%) followed by Haniyeh (33%), and Abbas (25%).
