Proposed legislation would allow indiscriminate searches

The Justice Ministry proposed new legislation that would allow police to perform bodily searches on anyone in designated locations irregardless of whether or not they have reasonable suspicion to do so, according to an announcement released by the ministry on Sunday.
The searches would be allowed in hospitals, schools, restaurants, clubs, sports arenas and cultural venues.
According to the current law, police can perform such searches only on condition that they have probable cause to believe the person being searched has committed a crime or is carrying a weapon.
