Psychiatrist arrested on suspicion of defrauding NII

A senior Health Ministry psychiatrist was arrested Sunday on suspicion of forging health documents which were used to defraud millions of shekels from the National Insurance Institute.

With the help of an ultra-Orthodox man from Jerusalem who was arrested last week, the two were able to extract NIS 2.5 million from the National Insurance Institute by submitting false information.

Authorities suspect that the psychiatrist issued fake medical certificates to Yeshiva student's posing as patients who received various benefits and pay in exchange from the psychiatrist's accomplice.

On Monday, the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court extended the psychiatrist's arrest by four days.
