Report: Abbas wants international force in Jordan Valley

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas agreed to a demilitarized state and has demanded an international force in the Jordan Valley, Lebanese paper Al-Akhbar reported on Monday.
In a new position paper, Abbas wrote that, in negotiations with former prime minister Ehud Olmert, he had agreed to a demilitarized state on the condition that international forces would be placed between Israel and the future Palestinian state. The international force would guard the borders between Palestine and Israel, as well as the Jordan Valley. The force would be made up of African or Asian soldiers, and not NATO forces or soldiers from Arab or Muslim countries.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has said that Israel would not evacuate the Jordan Valley. Abbas, however, wrote in his paper that the area is necessary for a future Palestinian State to survive, because of its arable land.
