Report: Economics committee fails to reach Ch. 10 decision

The Knesset Economics Committee failed to reach a decision Thursday on a request to delay repayment of Channel 10's NIS 44 million debt to 2012, Army Radio reported. The chairman of the joint Knesset Economics and Education Committee MK Carmel Shama- Hacohen (Likud) agreed Wednesday to hold another hearing on the station’s debt payments.
President Shimon Peres said Wednesday that he sees the struggle for the future of Channel 10 – which is in danger of closing next month if the committee does not approve the postponement – as a struggle for the democratic character of Israel.
