Report: German author Grass hospitalized with heart trouble

German author Gunter Grass, who's been embroiled in a war of words with Israeli politicians over a poem critical of the Jewish state he recently published, was hospitalized in Hamburg Monday after experiencing heart problems, AFP reported, citing German daily Bild.

Grass' poem, entitled "What Must Be Said," created a storm following its publication in the Munich-based Süddeutsche Zeitung earlier this month. In it, the author states that Israel seeks Iran's destruction, and questions Germany's sale of a submarine "equipped to transport nuclear warheads" to Israel, which is widely believed to be the Middle East's sole nuclear power.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Interior Minister Eli Yishai and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman were among those who condemned Grass, a member of the Nazi Waffen SS during the Holocaust.
