Report: Gharbiya first place to reject Egypt constitution

The Northern Egyptian Governorate of Al-Gharbiyah emerged on Sunday night as the first place to reject the constitution draft nationwide, the Egyptian Independent reported.

According to the report, 508,550 voters chose "no," whilst 467,600 voted "yes."

Other governorates appear to show a majority "yes" vote as Egyptians voted on a controversial referendum.

Because of high voter turnout earlier in the day, polls stayed open late Saturday night, before officials began counting votes after the polling stations closed.

Official results will not come until after a second round of voting takes place in various parts of the country next Saturday.
