Report: Hamas is clearing out Damascus bureau

Relations between Hamas and the government in Damascus have become strained during the ongoing crisis in Syria between anti- and pro-government forces, the London-based pan-Arabic newspaper Al Hayat reported Wednesday.
According to an "Islamic figure," who requested to remain anonymous, most figures in the Islamist movement's "political bureau" in Damascus had "left Syria for other countries," save for bureau chief Khaled Mashaal. While Mashaal is in Cairo for talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the report said that he had not abandoned his post in the Syrian capital.
Deputy bureau head Mussa Abu Marzouk left Damascus for the Jordanian capital Amman.
The source added that Marzouk was allowed to remain in Amman on condition that he refrained from political activities or media contact.
Relations between the Hashemite Kingdom and Hamas are minimal as Amman has agreed to work with the Palestinian Authority as the sole representative body of the Palestinian people.
