Report: IDF wants criminal investigation of Ashkenazi

The IDF's Military Advocate General Danny Efroni has recommended a criminal investigation be opened against former IDF chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi and his assistant Col. Erez Weiner for alleged fraud and breach of trust in the Harpaz Affair, according to Channel 10.

Named for Lt. Col. (res.) Boaz Harpaz, The Harpaz Affair concerns the appointment of former OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. (res.) Yoav Galant as chief of staff. Harpaz allegedly forged a document that detailed a strategy on how to appoint Galant.

The IDF quickly denied the Channel 10 report: "The question of the Harpaz affair is an ongoing cooperative effort between the military IDF legal division and the ministry of justice," said the IDF Spokesman's Office. "The army has no intent at this time to address internal deliberations that are not yet complete."
