A group of opposition activists arestanding trial in Teheran on charges of rioting in connection with protests inlate December, 'sstate media reported Saturday.
The official IRNA news agency andstate Press TV said that there were 16 defendants in court for the trial'sopening on Saturday.
At least eight people were killedand hundreds more were arrested during the December clashes between oppositionactivists and security forces. The violence was the worst since authoritieslaunched a harsh crackdown immediately after 's disputed presidentialelection in June.
Since August, 's hardlinegovernment has tried more than 100 political activists. Eleven people have beensentenced to death. More than 80 others have received prison terms.
