Report: Mashaal to visit Jordan with Qatari prince

Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Mashaal will visit Jordan next Sunday along with Qatar's prince and heir apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Hamas affiliate Al Resalah reported Monday according to a "source close to the [Jordanian] Royal Court."

Mashaal's visit will reportedly be preceded by a Hamas delegation of "senior officials."

Mashaal was scheduled to visit Jordan a late last year, but that trip stalled due to "technical reasons," the report said.

Jordan expelled Hamas's political bureau and its officials, including Mashaal, in 1999.

Mashaal is also planning a trip to the Gaza Strip with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, according to an Al Hayat report, to support a wavering reconciliation agreement between the governments in Ramallah and the Gaza Strip.

Mashaal announced last week that he does no plan on seeking reelection to head Hamas's political bureau, a position he has held since 1996.
