Report: Russia sends ships to Syria for possible evacuation

A Russian warship carrying marines departed for Syria on Sunday, AFP reported, indicating preparations for a possible evacuation of Russian nationals from the country.
According to the report, the Novocherkassk landing ship is the third craft Moscow has dispatched to Syria's Tartus port since Friday. The Azov and Nikolai Filchenkov landing ships previously were sent to Syria from their Russian bases.
The Novocherkassk was scheduled to arrive at Tartus within the first 10 days of January.
