Report: Shaath says PA will turn to UN even if talks resume

Senior Fatah member Nabil Shaath said that even if peace talks with Israel resume, the Palestinians will still follow through with their plan to seek United Nations recognition of Palestinian statehood in September, Israel Radio reported Monday.
In an interview with Voice of Palestine Radio, Shaath went on to claim that Germany's continued opposition to the Palestinians' statehood bid is a result of blackmail of sorts by Israel in the aftermath of the Holocaust, according to the report. Also on Monday, the Arab League was scheduled to meet in Cairo following a request by the Palestinian Authority to discuss the legal aspects of the Palestinian statehood bid in the UN.
