Report: US, France readying new UN Syria resolution

The United States and France have readied a new draft resolution on Syria for the United Nations Security Council, which would demand access for humanitarian aid workers to besieged cities across the country and call for an end to violence nearly a year into Syria's civil conflict, pan-Arab news channel Al Arabiya reported Wednesday.
The draft resolution, which was obtained by Al Arabiya, calls on Syria to engage with humanitarian aid groups and the United Nations to provide humanitarian assistance immediately. It also demands the immediate withdrawal of Syrian troops from cities across the country, and an end to violence.
The resolution calls for a "serious dialogue" between the opposition and the regime in Damascus in order to foster a political transition, according to the report.
Russia and China have twice vetoed UN resolutions on Syria that condemned the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad for its nearly year-long crackdown on anti-government protesters throughout the country, some of whom have become increasingly militant.
The conflict has claimed the lives of more than 7,500 people according to the UN, most of whom are civilians.
