Republican Paul expected to announce White House run

WASHINGTON - Republican Representative Ron Paul is expected to officially announce on Friday that he will run for his party's presidential nomination in 2012.

Paul, a Texas Republican and anti-war libertarian, scheduled an appearance in Exeter, New Hampshire, on Friday for what a press release described as a major announcement.

He is to appear on ABC's "Good Morning America" program and then speak to a rally later in the morning.

Paul, who lost the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, in April set up a presidential exploratory committee, the first formal move toward establishing a campaign. He has trailed behind other potential Republican candidates in opinion polls.
