Resentencing set for NY rabbi who molested daughter

NEW YORK - A federal appeals court has ordered a resentencing of a New
York rabbi convicted of molesting his daughter after it tossed out one of
the five counts against him.
Tuesday's ruling by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals came after Monsey
rabbi Israel Weingarten was convicted of charges that he abused his daughter
through much of her childhood. He was sentenced in 2009.
The appeals court struck down a charge of "travel in foreign commerce" on
the grounds that the travel involved two foreign countries and not the
United States. Weingarten had been sentenced to 10 years in prison on that
charge.
During his trial, Weingarten acted as his own attorney and put his daughter,
then 27, through a grueling cross examination.
