Rivlin denies inviting Turkish speaker to Israel

Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin never invited Turkish parliament speaker Cemil Çiçek to Israel, his office said Wednesday.

Responding to reports in Turkey's daily Hurriyet that Çiçek turned down an invitation in a November 29 letter to improve bilateral ties, Rivlin's office told The Jerusalem Post that it was unaware of any such letter.

Rivlin did send letters to parliamentary speakers around the world in honor of the secular New Year, his office said. That letter to Çiçek, however, proffered no invitations for state visit.
