Rivlin: German parliament must decide on circumcision case

The Bundestag will have to decide what will follow a court ruling in Cologne, Germany declaring circumcisions to be subject to criminal penalties, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said on Wednesday.
“The parliament in Berlin understands the ramifications of the ruling,” Rivlin, who is currently in Germany, stated. “Not allowing a person to follow his religion opposes every constitution.”In a parliamentary democracy, the legislators must decide, the Knesset Speaker added in an interview with Israel Radio.
The ruling in Cologne on Monday was in the case of a four-year-old who bled for days after the circumcision.
