Rivlin: Shamgar findings should be 'guidelines' not law

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin on Thursday said that the recommendations of the Shamgar Committee relating to the abduction of IDF soldiers should serve as "guidelines" for the government and should not be made into legislation that will restrict decision-making in future abduction situations.
"Any restricting of the government's judgment is terrible for Israeli democracy and constitutes a strike against the separation of powers," Rivlin stated.
"The government must be free to manage foreign affairs and security issues and the Knesset must oversee the process," he added.
