Russia accuses US of arms control breaches

MOSCOW – Russia's foreign ministry accused the United States Saturday of violating its obligations under bilateral nuclear arms reduction treaties and failing to properly safeguard raidoactive materials.
The foreign ministry claimed in Saturday's statement that the US has breached its duties under the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
It said in particular that the US has failed to provide assurances that some of their nuclear missile launchers and bombers converted to carry conventional weapons couldn't be retrofitted.
The ministry also claimed that the US authorities have failed to prevent leaks of radioactive materials and nuclear weapons-related information.
It mentioned one case in 2006 when US police found confidential data from Los Alamos National Laboratory leaked to a criminal group dealing with drugs.
