MOSCOW — Russia's Foreign Ministry sharply criticized the US and EU sanctions on Iran Thursday, which come on top of the United Nations' sanctions.
The ministry said in a statement that the US and EU moves demonstrate Western neglect of Russia's opinion, and that the unilateral sanctions are eroding international efforts to settle the Iranian nuclear standoff.
Russia supported a fourth round of UN sanctions imposed last week to curtail Iran's nuclear program over fears it is developing weapons.
The US administration announced additional penalties against Iran on Wednesday, hitting more than three dozen additional companies and individuals. The EU adopted a new set of sanctions Thursday.
