Russia says Iran sextet agrees on diplomacy need

MOSCOW  — A news agency is quoting a Russian diplomatas saying the sextet of countries negotiating with Iran over itsnuclear program sees no alternative to a diplomatic solution.

TheInterfax agency says Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov wasspeaking after a teleconference with officials from the US, Germany,China, France and Britain.

Ryabkov reportedly said all of thosein Wednesday's teleconference "stated that the search for a solutionthrough diplomatic efforts does not and cannot have any alternative."

Iran'sresistance to international pressure has raised concerns about itsnuclear ambitions. Tehran says it is for peaceful purposes, but theUS and other Western allies say they believe Iran is aiming to makeweapons.
