Russia: UN risk taking sides in Syrian civil war

MUNICH - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday a draft UN Security Council resolution on Syria was "not hopeless" but must be amended to avoid giving the impression that the world body was taking sides in a civil war.
"We are not saying that this resolution is hopeless," Lavrov told the Munich Security Conference, adding that he had already discussed it with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and would meet her in Munich later to discuss the Syria resolution.Lavrov said Russia's main objection was that the draft resolution set down measures to be taken against the government of President Bashar Assad, but not against what he said were armed groups who were manipulating the peaceful protesters.
"Unless you do it both ways, you are taking sides in a civil war," Lavrov told the conference.
