Russia urges 'serious' search for compromise with Iran

MOSCOW - Russia said global powers must work harder to win concessions from Iran over its nuclear programme, warning that Tehran's taste for compromise is decreasing as it makes progress toward the capability to create atomic weapons.
Making a case for a renewed dialogue with Iran, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said UN sanctions and additional measures introduced by Western nations had had "zero" effect on its nuclear program.
"The alternative (to sanctions) is the introduction of a serious negotiations process with the Iranian side," he said in a interview posted on the ministry's website on Wednesday.
Talks must be aimed at "a search for compromises and the proposal of a solution scheme that could interest the Iranian side," said Ryabkov, Moscow's pointman for Iran diplomacy.
