Sarkozy denies accepting campaign funds from Gaddafi

PARIS - France's interior minister, one of President Nicolas Sarkozy's closest aides, denied accusations by Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's son that the French leader had accepted Libyan funding for his 2007 election campaign.
Saif al-Islam, seen as Libya's pro-Western face, has slammed Sarkozy for his backing of opposition rebels seeking to end Gaddafi's rule and threatened to reveal evidence showing Gaddafi had financially backed his election.
"I would say that rather than keep saying it he should go ahead and do it," said Interior Minister Claude Gueant, who has been Sarkozy's chief of staff and top advisor for the past four years and was appointed to his current post last month.
