Sarkozy says was told injured reporter out of Syria

MONTPELLIER - President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Monday he had been informed that injured French journalist Edith Bouvier had been evacuated from Syria to Lebanon, but it was unclear whether he had independent confirmation of her transfer.
"I am glad this nightmare is ending. The negotiations were not terribly easy, they really weren't," Sarkozy told BFM TV during a campaign trip to the southern city of Montpellier.
Asked about attempts to move Bouvier to safety, he said: "I've been informed that it's been carried out."
Bouvier had been holed up in the besieged city of Homs since she suffered a badly broken leg during a Syrian army bombardment last week which killed two Western journalists.
Sarkozy's office and the foreign ministry said they were still not able to confirm Bouvier's transfer, and it was not clear whether the president had independent information or was reacting to press reports of her transfer.
