Shin Bet denies coercing murder suspect Pearlman

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) denied allegations on Wednesday evening that it had sought to encourage murder suspect Haim Pearlman to engage in criminal attacks ordered by the security establishment.

"Any claims seeking to connect the Shin Bet with attempts to coerce Pearlman are baseless," the Shin Bet said in a written response.

The Shin Bet did acknowledge that Pearlman had met with Shin Bet agents several times, but that the agents were merely seeking to gather intelligence on the crimes he was suspected of committing.
