Shin Bet head: Israel on the cusp of a difficult period

The state of security has drastically improved in the last three years in Judea and Samaria and the last year-and-a-half in the Gaza Strip, said Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) head Yuval Diskin at a government meeting on Sunday.

Israel is on the cusp of a difficult period and Hamas has been trying to employ activists in jail to agitate those who are to be released to engage in terror attacks, explained Diskin. The prime minister said that Hamas's efforts are one of the main concerns of the security apparatus which deals with Gilad Schalit's release.

Netanyahu explained that based on recent experience, if Israel withdraws from terroritory, the result is a take-over by forces aligned with Iran, who then smuggle weapons and use the area as a base for terror against Israel.
