Soldiers jailed over settlement protest seek pardon

Eight Golani soldiers sentenced to military prison have requested a pardon from Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, according to a report Tuesday on Army Radio.The soldiers were sentenced after they staged a protest following a ceremony in which they received their brigade's beret, signifying the end of their training.They removed their uniform shirts to reveal t-shirts they had printed that read "Golani's don't evict settlers."The pardon request asks to minimize their jail sentences.An unnamed army source said that their request will be addressed, but that there was no doubt that the soldiers realized that it was forbidden to wear the shirts, even if they didn't anticipate the subsequent media interest.
