Spain: Basque commando unit leader arrested in France

MADRID — The suspected leader of the commando units of Basque separatist group ETA was arrested Thursday in France along with four other people, the Spanish Interior Ministry said.
The ministry identified the suspect as Mikel Kabikoitz Carrera Sarobe. It is the sixth arrest of a senior ETA leader, either in Spain or France, in the past two years.
The ministry and French police said Carrera Sarobe and the other detainees were arrested in the French Basque town of Bayonne or nearby Urrugne. The raid was staged by French police and Spanish Civil Guards.
Spanish Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba declined to comment, saying, "It's an important operation, but let us wait until it's finished."
