Spain stops sale to Iran of helicopters purchased in Israel

Spanish police on Thursday announced that they stopped the illegal sale to Iran of nine US-made military helicopters purchased in Israel, AFP reported.
Police seized the Bell-112 military helicopters, and arrested five Spanish businessmen along with three Iranians suspected of being involved in the sale. Aviation spare parts allegedly bound for Venezuela were also seized in the police raid on warehouses in Madrid and Barcelona.
The aircraft were subject to EU and Spanish controls and were prohibited from being exported by the UN, police said.
Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said the suspects purchased the helicopters in Israel.
