State asks court for more time to remove Givat Assaf

The state on Friday filed a request with the High Court of Justice asking for an extension of time to remove the West Bank outpost of Givat Assaf until February 2013.

According to a previous court order, the state had received an extension until July 1, 2012 to remove the outpost in order to try to arrive at an agreed upon evacuation plan with the outpost residents.

The state is now asking for a new extension in light of the recent formation of the ministerial committee on settlements, which is expected to reformulate the government's policy on settlements in general, including settlement and outpost removal.

In that light, the state wants the new committee to have time to review the Givat Assaf situation as part of its broader policy review.
