State responds to Olmert's threat to sue Lador

The state Attorney’s Office issued a response, Monday evening, to former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s threat to sue State Attorney Moshe Lador for libel over statements Lador made about Olmert during a interview published last weekend in Haaretz.

Olmert complained that Lador had ruined his reputation when he described as "Scandalous" a loan Olmert had received from an American businessman in 1993. Olmert's lawyer said the money Lador spoke about was paid back in 2010.

In its response, the State said that the fact that the loan was returned was unknown to Lador when he gave the interview and pointed out that the loan was not included in the fraud charges filed against the ex-prime minister. The State also defended Lador’s right to pass judgment on the notion that a public official held on to NIS 75,000 “loaned” to him by a businessman for 16 years.
