Steinitz: We prefer higher gas prices over nuclear Iran

Israelis would rather pay more for gasoline than deal with the threat posed by a nuclear armed Iran, Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz told Channel 2 news on Saturday, just hours before the government was set to raise the price of fuel NIS 0.20 per liter.

Steinitz referred to the last month's price hike - at which time Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made a last minute cut of the tax on gasoline in order to lessen the burden on consumers - saying the two are "examining all options."

"Gas prices are up all over the world due to sanctions on Iran," Steinitz said.

"I'm sure Israel would prefer to pay more for gas than [deal with] the threat of a nuclear Iran," he said.
