Storms cause outages in Sharon region

Stormy weather caused some power outages in the Sharon region on Friday afternoon. Falling trees and direct lightning strikes brought down some power lines, the Israel Electric Corporation said Saturday night.
“High winds and unusual lightning strikes, along with heavy rain which occurred on Friday afternoon in the Sharon region, caused outages in Kfar Saba, Ra’anana and Herzliya,” the IEC spokeswoman said. “The strong winds knocked down trees, which fell on the power lines. In addition, lightning struck several lines. IEC teams headed immediately into the field to repair the downed lines and the damage to the network.”
“The IEC apologizes to its customers and thanks them for their patience during the long wait for the return of power,” the spokeswoman said. She added that most families’ power was restored in one to four hours. However, about 150 families in Kfar Saba did not have their power restored until 11 a.m. on Saturday – about 20 hours after it went out.
