Strip Barak of authority over settlements, Ya'alon charges

The government should strip Defense Minister Ehud Barak of the authority to determine the fate of West Bank settlements, Vice Prime Minister Moshe Ya'alon charged on Tuesday, after the IDF had ordered the evacuation of 15 families from an apartment complex they claim they legally purchased in Hebron.
Ya'alon recommended transferring the responsibility over settlements in Judea and Samaria, where over 300,000 Jews have settled according to the IDF, to other ministers.
"All he does is start fires instead of solving problems," Ya'alon said of Barak.
The defense minister met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and a small group of ministers behind closed doors Tuesday night to discuss the pending eviction of 15 settler families from an apartment building, called House of the Patriarchs, in the city of Hebron. Legal officials said Wednesday morning that the families would have to evacuate by April 25.
Barak and Netanyahu will continue discussions over the issue later Wednesday.
