Sudan President gives ultimatum on Darfur talks

KHARTOUM — Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir has threatened to call off peace talks in Qatar with Darfur rebels and return negotiations to Sudan if agreement is not reached within a day.
Bashir was speaking Wednesday during a visit to Nyala in southern Darfur. Qatar has been hosting peace negotiations between rebel groups and Bashir's government for nearly two years.
Last minute disagreements between the delegations foiled a goal to reach an accord by the end of the year. The talks were also marred by renewed clashes between government and rebel forces. Thousands were displaced during the new fighting.
Bashir gave a Thursday deadline to reach a deal. If not, he told a rally, "we will withdraw our delegation from there, and come to negotiate here in Darfur."
