Supreme Court: State must establish new standards for water quality

The Supreme Court announced on Tuesday that it was giving the state five months to establish new standards for water quality. The decision was given in response to a petition by environmental group Adam Teva v'Din complaining about delays in adopting an inter-ministerial committee's recommendations on the matter dating back to 2007. Nearly three years ago, the committee recommended that the government toughen the existing standards on levels of pollutants allowed in the water, add tests of pollutants that weren't tested for in the past, and cut in half the times between tests and adding essential minerals to desalinated water.
