'Synagogue pedophile' jailed for five and a half years

A cleaner who molested children as young as ten years old in a Jerusalem synagogue was sent to prison for five and a half years on Wednesday.
Gil Dvash, aged 46, was convicted in the Jerusalem District Court of several counts of attempted sodomy and indecent acts with minors.
A panel of three judges - Jacob Zaban, Raphael Carmel and David Mintz , also ordered Dvash to pay the victims compensation totaling NIS 20,000.
According to the indictment, from 2006 through 2008, Dvash came into contact with several minors in the synagogue, and groomed them with gifts of money.
Dvash then sexually assaulted as many as ten children, all of them boys and one as young as ten years old.
The judges' decision to impose a prison sentence on Dvash took into consideration a psychiatric examination that found he was fit to stand trial but had an unstable personality and pedophile tendencies, which made him likely to repeat his offenses.
