Syrian authorities detain hundreds around country

In what appear to be house-to-house searches for dissidents, the AP reported on Monday that Syrian authorities are detaining hundreds in a fresh show of force against protesters who have been calling for nearly two months for Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down.
Rami Abdul-Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told the AP that authorities are honing in on organizers and leaders of Syrian protests.
According to rights groups, more than 630 civilians have died since the beginning of the uprising.
