Syrian opposition chief calls for transitional government

Syrian opposition leader Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib on Saturday called on all anti-regime factions to hold talks to form a transitional government, Al Arabiya reported.
In a televised speech, al-Khatib reportedly said President Bashar Assad had created a “Holocaust” in Syria, which required opposition groups to unite in order to save the country.Khatib added that his coalition was in the process of forming a judiciary that would be put in place to avoid chaos in the event Assad was overthrown.
Khatib’s call comes as opposition commanders throughout Syria have joined forces to enhance coordination between disparate fighting groups in hopes of paving the way for the introduction of foreign military aid they say is essential for toppling Assad.
To this end, AFP reported early Sunday morning that Khatib’s coalition was set to announce the creation of a formal military council before a Friends of Syria meeting next week.
