Iran did not seize an oil field just over the Iraqi border, top Iranian security and defense official Alaeddin Boroujerdi adamantly stated on Saturday, wishing to quell reports that the Islamic republic had made a hostile move against its westerly neighbor. The official told the Iranian news agency that police had ruled out the possibility of a takeover, adding that the allegations would nevertheless be investigated. The erroneous reports, he suggested, may have been an attempt to damage the close ties between Baghdad and Teheran.
