Thousands of police in place for Pessah in Jerusalem

Thousands of police and Border Police officers began deploying throughout various parts of Jerusalem on Saturday in preparation for the upcoming Pessah holiday, which begins on Monday evening.
The heightened police force, which is to include some 3,000 members of the security forces, will be concentrated in the Old City, where thousands of people are expected to arrive throughout the week-long holiday.
Throngs of worshippers are also expected to converge at the Western Wall Plaza on Wednesday morning for the Birkat HaKohanim or Priestly Blessing, which occurs during the first intermediate day of the Pessah holiday.
Additionally, police will extend their deployment into nearby east Jerusalem neighborhoods in light of sporadic violence that has flared up there in recent weeks. Police have said however, that the increased security measures are in line with standard procedures undertaken at the onset of Pessah every year.
