Top European court urges Russia not to extradite Yair Klein

The European Court of Human Rights has called on Russia not toextradite a former IDF colonel to Colombia, where he has been convictedin absentia of training paramilitary groups and drug militias.
The court on Thursday accepted Yair Klein’s petition that he would bemurdered in jail should he be sent to the South American country.Colombian Vice President Francisco Santos Calderon has been quoted assaying he hopes Klein will "rot in jail for the damage he's causedColombia."
Klein was arrested at the airport in Moscow in August 2007 after trying to get out of the country on a forged passport.
On March 12, the Moscow City Court rejected Klein's appeal against the prosecution's decision to extradite him.
He is meant to be released from prison in Russia in three months' time.
