Tunisia freezes former president's assets

Tunisia's Central Bank announced Saturday its intention to freeze deposed president Zein Abdeen Ben-Ali's assets, Army Radio reported. The bank has refused to name the amount seized, but according to estimates the sum may be billions of dollars.
Tunisian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi also said that the country plans to divvy some of the funds to citizens negatively affected by the past president's regime. The family of Mohammad al-Bouazizi, the man who set himself on fire December 17, is among those at the top of the list for receiving a piece of the Ben-Ali's funds.
