Tunisian capital bustles again after govt shake-up

TUNIS, Tunisia — Tunisia's capital has awoken to bustling commercial activity for the first time since its former president fled the country, a day after a government shake-up aimed to quell simmering unrest.

The early signs of a return-to-normal on Tuesday come a day after Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi announced a new lineup of ministers — made up mostly of the old guard, but including opposition leaders for the first time.

Taxis, trucks and commuters carrying briefcases scampered to and fro on central Avenue Bourguiba — an area where security forces fired tear gas and shots in the air on Monday.

The country has suffered simmering unrest, looting and an apparent settling-of-scores after President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled Friday while facing huge protests.
