Two suspected French terrorists arrested in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - Authorities in Pakistan havearrested two French nationals of Pakistani origin for suspectedlinks to al Qaida-linked Islamist terrosists, local intelligenceofficials said on Thursday.

The two men identified as Sharaf Din and Zohaib Afzal werearrested in the eastern city of Lahore about two months ago andwere still in Pakistani custody, the officials said.

"They had planned to go to Waziristan for terror trainingand have links with the Pakistani Taliban," one intelligenceofficial said, referring to the lawless Pakistani tribal regionalong the Afghan border.

Another intelligence official confirmed the arrest of theFrenchmen and said they were picked up from Lahore'sinternational airport and during investigation revealed theirplans to travel to Waziristan for training.
