Ugandan police fire bullets, tear gas at protesters

KAMPALA - Ugandan police fired bullets and tear gas on Friday to disperse crowds protesting the arrest of opposition leader Kizza Besigye during a demonstration on Thursday against high prices, a Reuters witness said.
Crowds burnt tires to block roads in the center of the capital Kampala and stoned shops and cars to express their anger at Besigye being beaten, pepper-sprayed and dragged away by police during his arrest, all shown on TV footage.
