UK, France put forward UN resolution on Syria

LONDON - Britain and France will putforward a United Nations Security Council resolution onWednesday condemning Syria's crackdown on protesters, BritishPrime Minister David Cameron said.

"Today in New York, Britain and France will be tabling aresolution at the Security Council condemning the repression anddemanding accountability and humanitarian access.

"And if anyone votes against that resolution or tries toveto it, that should be on their conscience," Cameron toldparliament.

Britain, France, Germany and Portugal circulated a draftresolution condemning Syria at the UN Security Council lastmonth, but diplomats say Britain has been working on a versionwith tougher language. Veto powers Russia and China have madeclear they dislike the idea of council involvement.
