UN Middle East envoy acknowledges "quiet ties" with Hamas

The UN envoy to the Middle East said on Sunday that he maintained "quiet engagements" with Hamas for years, despite the international community's policy to isolate the organization, The Kansas City Star reported.
Speaking in an interview with McClatchy, Robert Sherry said that following the cease-fire reached between Israel and Hamas following the eight-day Gaza operation, his office was "hoping to help the parties get to a more durable solution," according to The Kansas Star.
